Evidence-based content + Personalized Support + Collaboration + 18 CEs  approved by NBHWC

Approved NBHWC CEA-000501-1

Our course is designed to help you learn and integrate Motivational Interviewing (MI) into your coaching practice. We’re thrilled to announce the launch of the MI Coach Foundations & Integration Course, starting on April 14, 2025 or as soon as we meet our minimum number of students.

This course is for you if…

  • You’d like to learn and improve your MI coaching skills in a supportive community.

  • You’d like to be in a group of coaches, sharing challenges and victories.

  • You’d like mentors to guide your MI learning and practice.

In this course, you’ll collaborate, practice MI in various coaching scenarios, and receive feedback. You can share personal cases and get practical guidance on the best ways to coach. You’ll join a vibrant community where you can share your growth, gain insights, and reach a higher level of ease in coaching with MI.

Program Details

  • Six narrated training video webinars on MI concepts and skills: You’ll have three months of access to all seven training video webinars that are part of the course. Each webinar will be released weekly, which you’ll watch in preparation for the weekly live Zoom classes.

  • Transcripts of the webinars: To foster learning, downloadable transcripts for each webinar will be available.

  • Seven weekly live Zoom meetings to review, explore, and apply the skills: This is where the real learning happens. You’ll join the weekly live Zoom meeting to review and explore the MI content, watch demos of how it can be applied in coaching, and then practice your skills in a supportive small group. You’ll receive feedback on your chosen goals for growth and improvement.

  • Time: This course provides time to learn about MI and how to apply it in coaching. In addition to reading the accompanying book, watching the training webinars, and participating in group discussions, you’ll have time to practice in small groups.

  • Feedback from two experienced MI-consistent coaches: We’re confessed MI-geeks! We believe coaching with MI is the foundation for effective coaching, regardless of the unique method or specialty you bring to your coaching practice.

  • Your teachers:

    • Patty is an IFS-Informed,  Professional Certified Coach (PCC) with the ICF, is an NBC-HWC, and is a Master Wayfinder Life Coach.  She worked as a Senior Course Facilitator for Functional Medicine Coaching Academy for six years.  She is a certified QiGong instructor, an eRYT200 yoga instructor, and is a certified meditation instructor and teaches all of these classes online.

    • Cecilia is an IFS-Informed, NBC-HWC and is on track to become credentialed as a PCC with the ICF. She brings experience as a retired, 25-year veteran teacher and coach for teachers and currently serves as faculty and course facilitator for the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy. She has experience as a mentor and coach in private practice.

  • Coaching community: We believe in the wisdom of the crowd (that’s you!), and we know the power that a truly collaborative and supportive community can have on your learning journey. The weekly live Zoom meetings foster this type of community.

  • Private WhatsApp community: We want to ensure you get the most out of this course. You’ll have a members-only community, a place to connect with like-minded coaches, which is not moderated by the instructors.

  • What is your refund/cancellation policy?
Once we reach the required number of participants, an invoice will be sent to your email for payment. If you cancel your course registration after invoice payment, a refund minus a $50 administrative fee will be issued. If you cancel your enrollment after the course's start date, you will receive a 50% refund of the $997 enrollment fee, $499.
  • What if I miss a live session?
We’ve got you! Video recordings of each session will be uploaded to the website within 48 hours for you to watch. For privacy, the group coaching breakout sessions are not recorded.
  • How long will I have access to the program?
The pre-recorded training webinars are available for three months after the course ends. You are free to keep all handouts, slide decks, and transcripts of the training webinars. (See Copyrighted Materials below.) The recorded live Zoom classes will be on the course website for two weeks following each live class.
  • What is the estimated weekly time commitment?
For optimal engagement, you’ll read the book, watch the weekly pre-recorded training webinars, and attend the live Zoom class. You can plan on averaging 3 – 3 ½ hours per week.
  • What materials are provided, and are any textbooks required for this course?
Each training webinar has accompanying downloadable slides. Handouts for coaching, observing, and offering feedback are provided. Please read our book Motivational Interviewing in Life and Health Coaching: A Guide to Effective Practice. (You may want to do this simultaneously with the weekly live Zoom sessions.)
  • What is the format of the training?
First, you’ll watch the weekly pre-recorded training webinars before attending each live Zoom class. (Each webinar is 20-45 minutes long.) Then, you’ll attend the live group Zoom class to review and collaborate on that week’s content. In the live class, you’ll watch demos of the skills, then have time to practice the skills in small groups and receive feedback. You’ll receive handouts for coaching, observing, and offering feedback.
  • Is attendance mandatory?
To receive the approved NBHWC 18 CE hours, you’ll attend each live Zoom class. If you cannot attend, you’ll have two weeks to watch the recorded live session and complete a short quiz to verify that you viewed the recording of the live class.
  • What is required to receive the 18 CE hours for NBHWC?
At the end of each pre-recorded webinar, you must score 100% on short quizzes (multiple attempts are allowed). You must also score 100% on an end-of-course assessment (multiple attempts are allowed). 100% attendance or verification of watching a recording of a missed live Zoom class is required. Reading the accompanying book is optional, though highly recommended, as it reinforces the content and provides many coaching samples. Purchasing the book also offers you access to 20 additional downloadable handouts. To receive credit hours, you must submit your certificate to the NBHWC during the recertification process. If you are applying for CE hours, you are required to take all quizzes, and the end-of-course assessments, to receive attendance verification.
  • How much do I have to share in our live group Zoom classes?
We know that learning about MI is different than learning how to use it. It takes more than reading a book and watching a webinar. We’re creating a safe and supportive community so that you can be fully engaged to get the most out of this experience. We believe in group wisdom, which means we believe each person has something of value to contribute! We hope you feel comfortable thinking out loud, asking questions, challenging assumptions, and practicing short coaching sessions with your fellow coaches. If you choose to ‘pass’ for any reason, we offer compassionate acceptance for what is best for you.
